Marouane Fellaini: Manchester United midfielder rescues woman caught under crush in Hull victory celebrations

The Belgium international reached into the crowd to help the stricken woman to her feet

Marouane Fellaini has been hailed for helping a Manchester United fan who was crushed during the celebrations which followed Marcus Rashord’s late winner in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Hull City.

The Belgium international has enjoyed something of a renaissance at Old Trafford since the appointment of manager Jose Mourinho, who has handed him a regular starting berth in midfield.

Fellaini has divided opinion among United’s support since his arrival at the club three years ago but he may now have won more fans round with a basic act of human kindness.

In the moments after Rashford’s late strike, many of United’s players ran to celebrate with the fans, who duly spilled out onto the KCOM Stadium’s pitch.

One female supporter wearing a pink hoodie fell beneath the surge and was crushed up against a collapsing advertisement hoarding.

Fellaini spotted the stricken woman and alerted nearby stewards, only to then reach into the crowd himself and help her to her feet.

Fellaini was making his fourth consecutive start for Mourinho's United, having established himself as one of the first names on the Portuguese's teamsheet.

The midfielder, who was booed off the Old Trafford pitch on occasions last season, has seen his popularity among the support grow as a result.

Mourinho praised Fellaini's performance following the win at Hull but warned that a back injury may curtail his impressive start to the season.

"I am going to lose Fellaini for a while," he said. "He has a muscle injury in his back and it is not good."

When asked how long Fellaini may be sidelined for, Mourinho merely said: "I don't like to say that but it is bad."

United’s win extended their perfect start to the Premier League season, with three wins from their opening three games.

Mike Phelan, Hull’s caretaker manager, had looked likely to hold his former employers to a goalless draw until Rashford tapped home from point blank range in stoppage time.
