Martin Skrtel will contest his Football Association charge for stamping on the leg of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, and the case will go in front of a Football Association independent commission tomorrow.
The incident was not seen by the referee Martin Atkinson and the three man FA referees’ panel – known in the organisation as the “not-seen” panel – decided that it was worthy of a red card and the subsequent three-match ban.
The Liverpool defender’s case will go on the fast-track disciplinary process with a commission convened to hear it before the weekend. Skrtel’s argument, supported by his club, is that the incident was accidental and not intentional. That may not be enough to see his ban overturned but it might mean that the Slovakian serves fewer than the regulation three games.

Liverpool have already lost Steven Gerrard for a three-match ban for his stamp on Ander Herrera. The club are also working to get Daniel Sturridge fit for the weekend after he withdrew from the England squad with a hip problem. Adam Lallana’s groin injury sustained against United made it a bad weekend all-round for Brendan Rodgers.
