The Sunderland defender John Mensah has has his weekend red card rescinded on appeal.

The centre-back was dismissed against Liverpool on Sunday by Kevin Friend for a professional foul on Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez. The card was overturned on appeal, however, and Mensah will be available for Sunderland's trip to Manchester City on 3 April.

"Naturally we're delighted," said Sunderland's manager Steve Bruce.
