Mesut Ozil record: Arsenal star first player to record assists in seven straight Premier League matches
Ozil's free-kick for Olivier Giroud gave Arsenal the lead and saw him register a seventh straight match with an assist

Mesut Özil set a new Premier League record on Saturday as his free-kick for Olivier Giroud’s headed opener against West Brom saw him record an assist for the seventh straight match, becoming the first player in the top flight to do so.
Özil has proven instrumental in the Gunners strong start to the Premier League season, with the German World Cup winner pulling the strings in the 3-0 victory over Manchester United at the start of October.
It was his assist in the match before – the 5-2 victory over Leicester – that triggered the start of his run, with his assist for Alexis Sanchez’s second goal opening the floodgates.
Assists quickly followed in league games against Manchester Unted, Watford, Everton, Swansea and Tottenham, with the Gunners rising to join Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, trailing Manuel Pellegrini’s side on goal difference only.
When Arsenal were awarded a free-kick in the 28th minute at the Hawthorns, Özil took control of the ball and delivered a cross from the right for Giroud to direct beyond goalkeeper Boaz Myhill and open the scoring for Arsenal, bagging himself the record in the process.
