Mourinho was in trouble with Uefa and the Football Association for his conduct after matches against Barcelona and Manchester United last season, and a fortnight ago accused the Premier League of bias by giving his side five away fixtures after their six Champions' League group ties next season while Arsenal were presented with more home games.

Scudamore dismissed Mourinho's argument, saying that the weekly home and away rotation of domestic fixtures had worked against Chelsea, but he also said he was not worried by Portuguese coach's outbursts. "We like it that Jose Mourinho is so animated," he said. "We are a pretty tolerant organisation. In terms of overstepping the mark, there is a high bar there. It is debate, a bit of controversy and most of this whole issue is good for us."
