Jose Mourinho has insisted he is happy at Manchester United despite a difficult start to his tenure.

Mourinho has watched his side slip eight points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, with last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Burnley at Old Trafford further denting title hopes.

The manager’s week was made worse as he was given a one-match ban and fined £58,000 for two separate offences. He will now serve a touchline ban for the game against Swansea on Sunday.

Despite his inconsistent start, Mourinho says he is content with life at Old Trafford. “I am at the club I want to be at and I am so happy to be here,” the former Chelsea manager said. “I want to stay here until the end of my contract and then who knows?

“But I will be here for many years. I am a football man and I am still young. Sometimes people think I am 75 but I am 53 and I have passion for the game.”

Mourinho has cut an increasingly agitated figure in recent weeks, and this week was fined £50,000 for comments he made about referee Anthony Taylor ahead of his side’s trip to Liverpool last month.

Mourinho suggested Taylor, who lives close to Old Trafford, would find it ‘difficult’ to officiate the game against United’s Merseyside rivals and would feel under pressure.

He was fined an additional £8,000 after being sent to the stands by referee Mark Clattenburg for an incident ‘in or around the tunnel area during half-time’ of United’s clash against Burnley.

The manager appeared upset his side had not been awarded a penalty after Jon Flanagan challenged Matteo Darmian inside the Burnley penalty area.

Mourinho’s side are in action against Fenerbache in the Europa League tonight, kick-off 6pm.
