Mutu seeks Abramovich talks over £15m fine
Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu is hoping to hold talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich over the size of the fine he owes to the Blues.
He said: “I simply don’t have that money. I will make a proposal to Chelsea and try to sit down and talk to Abramovich, but it won’t be easy.
“Not only do I not have all the money to pay the fine, but also if I never spent a penny from the moment I started earning my living as a football player, I still wouldn’t have enough.”
Meanwhile, the striker faces several weeks out of action after sustaining a thigh injury during training with Romania.
The 30-year-old is set to return to Italy for treatment, having recently been stung by a Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling meaning that he owes nearly £15m to Chelsea for failing a drugs test five years ago.
Mutu told the media back in his homeland: “I need some tests to know how long I’ll be out for. The initial prognosis is three weeks.”
Of his long-term future, Mutu added: “I want to continue playing football and hope FIFA and Chelsea will let me.
“I never thought of retiring and ending my football career. I will play another five or six years, even if not quite at my current level.
“My final club will certainly be Dinamo Bucharest, as that is where I was born and raised. I have many friends there and it’s the perfect place to close my career.”
