Louis van Gaal's team managed just one shot on target in a game described as "awful", "boring", "rubbish" and much, much worse.
Boos rang out before the half-time whistle even blew as United's attack was again blunted by an organised defence.
In their last 11 home matches, stretching back to October, United have scored just seven goals in front of a crowd that usually expects a lot more.
