Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's career in numbers

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that he will have an “input” into Manchester United’s January transfer business as caretaker manager.

Solskjaer held his first press conference since replacing Jose Mourinho, who was dismissed earlier this week.

Mourinho had hoped to reinforce his squad when the transfer window re-opens and Solskjaer said on Friday that he would be part of discussions on potential moves.

However, the Norwegian said his main responsibility is to get to know the players already at the club.

“I will have an input but the job is to get to know the players, observe them,” Solskjaer said.

“I’ve seen more or less every game from Norway but [my job is] to get to know the players, what do I think I can improve them on and the club have got the recruitment and scouting.

“They’ve got their targets but I’ve not sat down and talked about that.”

Solskjaer arrives at Old Trafford with United 11 points adrift of the top four. Qualification for next season’s Champions League looks unlikely and Solskjaer is prioritising a return to form first.

“I think first thing is first game, think about getting my principles into the boys, get the players to understand how I want them to play,” he said.

“Let’s take the results later on, see how many points we can gather, but this club has made many many points before but I’m not going to set that target now.”
