Anfield will play host for the second time in four days as Liverpool welcome Premier League strugglers Burnley to Merseyside after they enjoyed success against Manchester City on Sunday.

Burnley remain in the relegation zone after their defeat against Swansea. Despite having 13 shots on target, Burnley failed to score in their last match and as a result, struggle to escape the bottom three with tough fixtures ahead in their next five games.

A draw against Chelsea suggested confidence in last season’s promoted side, however Sean Dyche’s team have failed to record a win in their last six league games.

Brendan Rodgers’ team are beginning to show flashes of the side that challenged for the title last season and after an emphatic victory over Manchester City on Sunday, will be confident they can secure all three points at Anfield in the mid-week clash.

Liverpool crashed out of the Europa League with defeat to Turkish side Besiktas last Thursday and have endured a heavy schedule, with this week’s clash their fifth game in three weeks.

But despite an extensive injury list, Liverpool are in true contention for a Champions League spot following important victories against Southampton and Manchester City in the Premier League.

KICK-OFF: Wednesday, 8pm

PAST THREE MEETINGS…

Burnley 0 Liverpool 1 (Sterling) Premier League, December 2014

Burnley 0 Liverpool 4 (Rodriguez, Babel, Gerrard 2) Premier League, April 2010

STATS…

Liverpool are only three points off third place in the Premier League table whereas three points would take Burnley out of the relegation zone.
