Watford have confirmed that manager Quique Sanchez Flores will leave the club at the end of the season.

As revealed by The Independent last month, the 51-year-old Spaniard will depart from Vicarage Road following Sunday's final league game against Sunderland, despite having guided the newly-promoted club to Premier League safety and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

"Watford Football Club can confirm that Quique Sanchez Flores will leave Vicarage Road at the end of the season following the Sunderland game this weekend," the club's statement read.

"We would like to thank Quique. He and the team achieved the target set them at the start of the season of staying in the Premier League for a second year.

"Quique leaves with all our best wishes for the future and the knowledge he is always welcome at Vicarage Road."

Flores, who was voted December's Manager of the Month, led the Hornets to a healthy position in the top half of the table by Christmas, winning eight of their opening 17 matches.

The highlight, a 3-0 home win against Liverpool, left Watford a point outside the top-four. However, Flores' side have won just four matches during the second half of the season, a poor streak of form which appears to have cost him his job.

Flores, who arrived at Vicarage Road last season, becomes the seventh manager to leave Watford since the Pozzo family's takeover in 2012.
