Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp insists he is happy with Ledley King continuing as captain at White Hart Lane.
King has been dogged by injury for two years and has struggled to play games in quick succession since knee surgery in consecutive summers, leading to questions whether he was the right man for the armband.
Redknapp, who was encouraged by the 28-year-old playing against Bolton at the weekend four days featuring against Udinese, said: "I'm happy for him to carry on as captain."
King remains a doubt for the clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium after 180 minutes in the last week.
"He's a great guy and when he's fit he is a fantastic centre-half," Redknapp said.
"He's got strength and he's good in the air and good on the ball.
"He's played in midfield, he's an England player and there's no doubt about that. We've got to nurse him along and he can't play Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday so if he plays once a week then that's what we'll do."
Redknapp has also backed goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, who was flapping at crosses in recent matches and also injured Vedran Corluka against Stoke when he came to punch.
"He's a top keeper," Redknapp said. "He is a brave goalkeeper who doesn't hide. He doesn't stand on his line and lets people head at his goal - he comes out and if there is a chance of dealing with a situation he takes it.
"Everyone who watched him in Holland saw a world-class goalkeeper. I like him. He is a character and could go on to be a real outstanding goalkeeper in the Premier League."
