Barcelona's sporting director has admitted the club is interested in the Manchester City winger Robinho. Txiki Begiristain refused to rule out a January transfer window move for the Brazilian and also said he believed the Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will one day show up at the Nou Camp.

Barça are expected to bring in at least one reinforcement in January with the left-hand side of their front three the most likely to be strengthened. They are concerned about losing two midfield players to the African Nations Cup but believe those absences can be covered by the club.

Begiristain said: "There are possibilities for strengthening yes. We will be very attentive to see if an interesting option comes up. In January it is the African Nations Cup. We are going to see if some of our defenders can play in midfield. Depending on that we could look for a forward."

Asked directly if that forward might be Robinho, Begiristain added: "He is a very interesting footballer and he can play in the Champions League."

Asked about the Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, Begiristain said: "He is a Barcelona type of player who was nurtured by our football culture. One day he will end up playing at the Camp Nou. I am sure of it."
