Ryan Giggs 'could leave Manchester United' if asked to be caretaker manager

Ryan Giggs could leave Manchester United if he's asked to become caretaker manager for a second time, according to reports.

The Old Trafford hierarchy is already believed to be concerned that Giggs may exit the club after 28 years if Jose Mourinho, favourite to replace Louis van Gaal, arrives in the summer.

According to the Daily Mirror, Giggs will not take kindly to being offered a caretaker gig if the club pull the trigger on Van Gaal early.

The Dutchman is again under pressure following a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland at the weekend that leaves them six points below rivals Manchester City in the fourth Champions League position.

Current assistant Giggs, 42, is said to believe that it is now or never for him to take over at the club where he spent his whole career.

Mourinho is the odds-on favourite to take over from Van Gaal abd while Giggs is in second place with a lot of bookies, some have Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino at shorter odds than the Welshman.

The Portuguese is reported to be desperate for the job, but there could still be some concerns over his confrontational style of management and penchant for getting in trouble with the Football Association.

Giggs was previously caretaker manager after David Moyes was sacked in April 2014; he won two of his four matches.
