Aston Villa strolled to a 6-0 victory over Irish Eircom League side St Patrick's to win the Dublin Tournament yesterday, Juan Pablo Angel and Marcus Allback both scoring twice.

However, Leeds, who were beaten on penalties by Villa on Saturday, suffered another pre-season defeat as they went down 2-0 to Shelbourne.

David Thompson fired in a stunning 25-yard volley late on as Blackburn beat Serie A side Chievo 1-0 at Ewood Park, where new signings Vratislav Gresko, Lorenzo Amoruso and Brett Emerton were all in the starting line-up.

Tottenham played out a goalless draw with Sporting Lisbon at White Hart Lane, with the South Africa captain Mbulelo Mabizela making his home debut, while Fulham beat Real Mallorca 2-1.

Kevin Campbell's injury in Everton's 3-0 win over Bologna cast a cloud over an encouraging display by an Everton side who have produced a string of poor pre-season performances. Campbell was taken off with what looked like a hamstring strain in the 10th minute.
