Sociedad dismiss Bolton's bid for coach Coleman

Real Sociedad have issued a hands-off warning to Bolton Wanderers over their coach Chris Coleman.

Coleman has reportedly been earmarked by Bolton as the successor to Sammy Lee, who left the Premier League club by mutual consent this week. But as far as Real Sociedad are concerned, Coleman will stay in San Sebastian.

A club spokesman said: "We told Bolton that Chris Coleman has a three-year contract. We are delighted with him and want him to see out his full contract."

The former Crystal Palace coach Alan Smith, Coleman's adviser, earlier said Bolton had approached the Welshman.

"It's a very interesting proposition for him to return to the Premier League, but at the same time he is happy in Spain," he said. "We have already turned down an inquiry from another English club."

Elsewhere, David Beckham played his first competitive football in seven weeks on Thursday as the Los Angeles Galaxy drew 1-1 with New York to keep their play-off push alive.

The England midfielder came off the bench after 68 minutes to make his first appearance for the Galaxy since injuring his knee in the SuperLiga final at the end of August. He played several trademark long balls as the Galaxy extended their unbeaten run to seven.

The 32-year-old had returned to full practice this week but is still a long way from full fitness, having hurt his ankle slightly in training on Wednesday.

However, having come through this game, he is all but certain to be available again tomorrow when Los Angeles finish their regular season with a make-or-break game away to Chicago – their rivals for the remaining play-off berth.

When asked if Beckham will play, the Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said: "We'll see. I'll make that decision on Saturday or Sunday depending on the situation."

The Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has been fined ¿35,000 (£24,000) by the national association for lashing out at the Serbia player Ivica Dragutinovic at the end of last month's Euro 2008 qualifier.

The decision came after Uefa's appeals body reduced the Brazilian coach's ban from four matches to three after he apologised for his "assault". After missing the wins over Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan this month, Scolari will also be sidelined for the game against Armenia in November. Scolari had also been fined Sfr20,000 (£8,000) by Uefa, the European governing body.
