Steve Clarke, assistant manager to Kenny Dalglish last season, yesterday left Liverpool. The Scot offered his resignation last month, after Dalglish's departure, but it was declined.

Meanwhile, Liverpool reserves forward Dani Pacheco's use of the word "negrito" in a good luck Twitter message to team-mate Glen Johnson for Euro 2012 forced the young Spaniard to defend himself on the social networking site. Team-mate Luis Suarez was banned for eight matches for using the same word towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra in a match at Anfield in October.
