Stoke vs Newcastle: Peter Crouch scores match-winning header...the triggers memories of the robot by celebrating with the birdie

Crouch's defining moment came in 2006 when he performed the robot after scoring for England, but the birdie made its debut on Monday night

Peter Crouch sure loves to boogie. Having brought the robot to our screens after he scored for England in the 2006 victory over Jamaica, the former Three Lions star has displayed his latest dance floor move in the form of the birdie.

Crouch scored the only goal in Stoke’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle on Monday night as he towered over Magpies defender Fabricio Colloccini to head in his second goal of the season after scoring in the Capital One Cup win against Portsmouth last month.

Despite his goal condemning Newcastle manager Alan Pardew to even more pressure as he faces a fan backlash over his future with the club, Crouch had no intentions of feeling any sympathy for him as he immediately bolted for the jubilant Potters faithful at the Britannia Stadium.

But the 33-year-old, perhaps looking to dispel his reputation for being famous for the robot more than anything else, suddenly threw his hands up in the air, and mimicked a bird walking from side to side made famous in The Birdie Song.

Seriously, you need to see it to believe it.

The new dance immediately swamped social media as observers were left stunned at what they had just seen. Crouch was quizzed on why he chose to celebrate in such a style after the match, and he revealed that it was dedicated to one of his friends that was a fan of the move – who just happened to be a Newcastle supporter.

“My mate is a Geordie and that's one of his moves,” revealed Crouch. “He said I was allowed to do it if I scored, so that one was for him.”

Stoke will be hoping to do the north-east double when they travel to Sunderland this weekend, and fans nationwide may be hoping for another Crouch winner in order to see the 6ft 7in striker pull out yet another dance floor classic.

The question on everyone’s lips though is what will he pull out next: the monkey or the twist? Or maybe even a twerk.
