Diego Costa struck twice as Chelsea preserved their unbeaten Premier League record in a 2-2 draw at Swansea.

Costa fired Chelsea into an 18th-minute lead during a first half the visitors controlled from start to finish, only for Swansea to turn the game on its head by Gylfi Sigurddson and Leroy Fer scoring within three second-half minutes.

Chelsea surged forward in search of an equaliser and were rewarded when Costa claimed his fourth goal of the season with an acrobatic scissors kick nine minutes from time.

What had been a slow-burner of a game exploded into life when Thibaut Courtois raced rashly from his goal after 59 minutes to fell Sigurdsson.

Sigurdsson levelled from the spot and three minutes later Fer's foul on Gary Cahill went unpunished for the Dutch midfielder to put Swansea ahead.

It was another uncomfortable moment for referee Andre Marriner, who was in charge for the first time since his failure to send off Sergio Aguero for elbowing West Ham's Winston Reid and the Manchester City striker's subsequent three-match ban imposed by the Football Association.

Swansea boss Francesco Guidolin, who said he lost out to Antonio Conte for the Italy job in 2014, was seeking to improve on a dismal record against his Chelsea counterpart.

Swansea City player ratings:

Lukasz Fabianski – 7 out of ten

Made a number of saves, and proved particularly impressive at his near post.

Kyle Naughton – 6 out of ten

Stretched by Chelsea's pace down the flanks, he nevertheless remained resilient when defending at the back stick.

Federico Fernandez – 5 out of ten

His poor headed clearance led to the opener, he looked more comfortable when the Swansea defence moved from a five to a four.

Jordi Amat – 6 out of ten

Endured - perhaps enjoyed - a physical battle with Costa, and overcame a period when he looked destined for an early bath.

Stephen Kingsley – 6 out of ten

Another who settled with the switch, but should have got closer to Ivanovic in the build-up to Chelsea's equaliser.

Neil Taylor – 5 out of ten

Furious when replaced in the first half as Guidolin made tactical changes with Chelsea dominating.

Ki Sung-Yueng – 6 out of ten

Always on the move, he showed delicate skill with the few touches he was afforded by Chelsea's midfield.

Jack Cork – 5 out of ten

Outfought by Oscar for the opener, and found himself up against it in protecting his defence.

Leroy Fer – 7 out of ten

Another goal for the Dutchman albeit a fortuitous one after fouling Cahill. An energetic performance that excited and frustrated in equal measure.

Gylfi Sigurdsson became Swansea's top goalscorer in the Premier League

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7 out of ten

On the fringes for much of the game, he remained capable of something special. He did well to win the penalty from which he became Swansea's record Premier League goalscorer.

Fernando Llorente – 5 out of ten

Worked tirelessly, but wasn't given a sniff by Chelsea's experienced centre-halves.

Chelsea player ratings:

Thibaut Courtois – 5 out of ten

Had nothing to do until his rush of blood ended in a foul on Sigurdsson and Swansea back in the match.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was fouled by Thibaut Courtois for the penalty

Branislav Ivanovic – 7 out of ten

Found himself further forward as the game progressed, it was no surprise he was involved for Chelsea's equaliser.

Gary Cahill – 5 out of ten

Fouled by Fer in the build-up to Swansea's second, but nevertheless showed hesitancy at the back that was capitalised upon.

John Terry – 6 out of ten

Comfortably kept Llorente under wraps, but ended the match limping on a damaged ankle. 6/10

Cesar Azpilicueta – 6 out of ten

The less adventurous of Chelsea's full-backs, he remained a reliable presence in defence. 6/10

N'Golo Kante – 7 out of ten

Displayed bundles of energy in repelling rare Swansea breaks, and then getting forward to support his side's own attacks.

Willian – 6 out of ten

Terrorised Taylor early in proceedings, but his final ball was rarely pitch perfect. 6/10

Oscar – 7 out of ten

Impressed as he linked midfield and attack, and showed a physical side to his game in outmuscling Cork for the equaliser.

Nemanja Matic – 7 out of ten

A physical force in midfield, who showed he still possesses great trickery and an eye for a pass.

Eden Hazard – 7 out of ten

Always threatened when on the ball, evading his markers with ease. His finishing let him down, however, particularly when one-on-one with Fabianski.

Diego Costa scored the opener for Chelsea

Diego Costa – 8 out of ten

Classic Costa. He scored two well taken goals, missed a sitter, was booked for a rash challenge, clashed constantly with Amat and caused controversy in all he did.
