Harry Kane has insisted he’s “not bothered in the slightest” by the backlash he has faced after successfully appealing a goal initially awarded to Christian Eriksen during Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Stoke.

The Premier League goals accreditation panel’s decision to award Kane the goal, which took his tally for the season to 25, was met with derision as players, pundits and fans took to social media to taunt the forward over his appeal.

The internet was soon awash with photoshopped images of Kane ‘stealing’ other goals from the footballing archives and even non-league Gateshead couldn’t resist getting in on the act when they jokingly told supporters: “Our second goal at Tranmere Rovers last night has now been awarded to Harry Kane.”

But Kane remains unperturbed and insisted in the wake of Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Brighton, in which he scored his 26th league goal, that the recent furore has not affected his pursuit of the Golden Boot.

“People are going to jump on the bandwagon and have a bit of fun on social media,” Kane told Sky Sports News.

“But it's my job to be able to be out there on the pitch and do my best for the team and work hard.

“It's just part of the game in this day and age.

“People can have their opinion; it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Some people can laugh at it but I'm just focused on my own job."

Asked about his chances of catching Mohamed Salah, who has 30 league goals to his name and currently leads the race for the Golden Boot, Kane said: “There's still games to go and we'll see what happens.

“Salah's been doing well and we've both got four games left so we'll just have to wait and see.”
