Emmanuel Adebayor is back in training at Tottenham Hotspur but will not play in tomorrow’s Capital One Cup game at White Hart Lane.

The Togolese striker was given compassionate leave by head coach Mauricio Pochettino last week, and flew home, but he returned to Spurs’ Enfield training ground on Monday.

Pochettino, giving his pre-match press conference there this afternoon, confirmed that Adebayor would not be ready to face Newcastle United.

“No, he is not available,” Pochettino confirmed. “He started training yesterday. After one week away it is impossible to play tomorrow.”

Adebayor’s absence means that Harry Kane and Roberto Soldado are Spurs’ only two available strikers for the game, and Pochettino said he was delighted with Kane’s progress.

“He has the potential to be a very good player,” Pochettino said. “He scores, he works hard, these are his principle values.”
