Eric Dier has been named in Tottenham's starting XI against Newcastle after recovering from a shin injury suffered in the win over Monaco in midweek.

The midfielder had been a doubt for today's Premier League match.

Mousa Dembele, who missed that Europa League match through illness, remains sidelined.

Harry Kane leads the attack with Dier joined by Tom Carroll, Erik Lamela, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in midfield.

Newcastle head coach Steve McClaren has no new injury worries, opting to start Georginio Wijnaldum and have Papiss Cisse lead the line.

The Magpies are still without defender Jamaal Lascelles and midfielders Cheick Tiote and Rolando Aarons, but the trio could return to action next week.

Tottenham will be aware that victory will move them into the Champions League qualification places and ensure they remain in touching distance of the league leaders.

Meanwhile, Newcastle can escape the relegation zone if they manage to follow up last weekend's win over Liverpool with another three points.

Tottenham XI: Lloris (c), Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Carroll, Dier; Lamela, Alli, Eriksen; Kane

Subs: Vorm, Davies, Trippier, Bentaleb, Chadli, Onomah, Son

Newcastle XI: Elliot, Janmaat, Mbemba, Coloccini, Dummett, Sissoko, Anita, Colback, Wijnaldum, Cisse, De Jong

Subs: Gouffran, Perez, Thauvin, Darlow, Sterry, Mbabu, Mitrovic
