West Brom team news: Darren Moore backs Jake Livermore for World Cup 2018 as he plots relegation escape

West Bromwich Albion manager Darren Moore talked up Jake Livermore’s England credentials before the midfielder faces former club Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Livermore’s place in the World Cup squad is far from assured but he has been a consistent fixture in Gareth Southgate’s selections this year. The 28-year old has been one of West Brom’s most consistent players in this difficult season.

“I’m delighted for Jake Livermore,” Moore said. “His performances have been absolutely excellent. We want him to see him go to the World Cup with England.”

Tottenham will be the final visitors this season to a ground that has seen just two Premier League wins. With regards to their opponents, Moore praised a potential World Cup teammate of Livermore’s but also noted the quality Tottenham have other than Harry Kane.

“Harry Kane is an excellent player, but he also has excellent players around him too. We are going to have to be at our very best to deal with him on Saturday.

“Any team you face in the Premier League pose threats. Collectively as a group we have to come together to work hard to get a result.”

Moore will be without James Morrison and Gareth Barry, but otherwise has a full squad from which to choose. His appointment as caretaker manager in the wake of Alan Pardew’s departure has catalysed an uptick in the Baggies’ form, and Moore hopes to conclude an otherwise poor season in similar fashion.

“We are focusing on the next game. We’ve hit some good form lately and we are looking to continue that.” Moore noted. “It’s the last home game of the season and we want to give a good account of ourselves. We’re looking forward to the game.”
