West Ham's efforts to sign Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher are in doubt after the club reportedly failed to meet his £70,000-a-week wage demands.
According to the Daily Mail, the 30-year-old Scot returned to United this morning with the Hammers considering their options.
Fletcher has been informed by Louis van Gaal that he is free to leave Old Trafford while his contract expires in the summer.
West Ham are now waiting on the results on his medical but they must decide if the United midfielder is worth the inflated wages.
Fletcher was said to be keen on the move to Upton Park and was ready to sign a three-and-a-half year contract on Friday evening.
It remains to be seen whether the two parties can agree a deal but Everton and Leicester City are also interested.
Mark Noble will also be monitoring the situation as he may be required to leave in order to facilitate the deal.
