Who is the 18-year-old on the bench for the home side?
Manchester United have included Timothy Fosu-Mensah in their matchday squad for today’s Premier League meeting with Arsenal.
After Marcus Rashford’s heroics against Midtjylland on Thursday, could this latest academy graduate come off the bench and make the headlines against Arsene Wenger’s men?
Here’s everything you need to know about the 18-year-old.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah
Birthplace: Amsterdam
Position: Midfielder
Date of birth: January 2 1998
Joined club: September 2 2014
The Dutch youngster initially started his career as a centre-back at Ajax’s academy and his performances in youth European competitions convinced United to make a move.
He is considered to be one of the stand-out players in the club’s academy set-up, capable of powerful and commanding defensive displays.
His versatility is also a huge asset. Fosu-Mensah has even operated behind the striker in the no. 10 role.
Career highlight
He scored his first goal for the club in a 7-0 win over Norwich City’s Under-21s, with the assist coming courtesy of compatriot Memphis Depay.
What they say
“He's a lad who was very good in the FA Youth Cup games,” said former academy coach Paul McGuinness to the club’s official website.
He played in midfield and at the back and, as a new addition, settling into the club takes time. Obviously, he's shown some really good qualities. He has very good acceleration over the ground to win the ball and then break forward. He has shown some outstanding work."
