Wojciech Szczesny has reportedly been fined £20,000 by Arsenal after having been caught smoking in the showers after the recent Premier League game against Southampton.

The goalkeeper is alleged to have smoked in the dressing room's at St Mary's after the 2-0 defeat on New Year's Day.

The news compounds an awful afternoon for the Poland international who was at fault for both of the goals conceded against the Saints.

Szczesny was not used in Arsenal's following game - the FA Cup third round victory over Hull - however Arsene Wenger always rotates his goalkeepers for cup matches. Whether Szczesny plays in Arsenal's next Premier League game, against Stoke on Sunday, remains to be seen.

Arsenal have so far not commented on the smoking reports, however they have denied suggestions there was some sort of bust-up in the dressing rooms and that Szczesny will never play for the Gunners again. Those claims were made by former midfielder John Jensen on Danish TV.

The reports of smoking are not the first to hit Arsenal, with young England midfielder Jack Wilshere having to be reminded of his responsibilities by Wenger after being pictured with a cigarette on more than one occasion. Former player William Gallas was also warned.
