Yohan Cabaye disciplined by Newcastle for refusing to play after £10m bid from Arsenal

The French midfielder has now integrated back in to the squad

Yohan Cabaye has been disciplined by Newcastle bosses for refusing to play against Manchester City at the start of the season.

The France midfielder said he was not in the right mental state to play at the Etihad Stadium for his side's first game of the season, following a £10.2 million bid from Arsenal, and was left out of the four-nil defeat.

That bid was rejected out of hand by Newcastle and Cabaye has since returned to the Newcastle first team, with the side winning the last two games he has been involved in.

"He's been disciplined for his actions this week," said Alan Pardew, the Newcastle manager.

"He accepted that in good faith and therefore we move on now. As far as I'm concerned, especially on Saturday if our 51,000 or whatever it is give him the support he now deserves for at least apologising for that and taking the punishment that came with it.

"It had to come for the players here and players elsewhere. Until the contract is signed with another club there is a responsibility to the club you're at. He accepted that in good faith and he was brilliant last week.

"He's a fantastic player, not just for us but for France. I know he will have a great season. His performance last week spoke a thousand words. He didn't really need to do that (apologise) during the week in terms of winning over the fans. His performances and his endeavour will do that.

"He was top of our coverage of running last week. It's about performances. What Newcastle fans want to see is him pull that shirt on and give everything he's got. He did that against Aston Villa.

"It's now dead and gone and we just want, and I want Yohan, to perform to the best of his ability. He's been brilliant again this week. Trust me he's a fabulous player and very important to us."
