Miller's scoring feats earn Scotland call-up

Kenny Miller has received his first call-up to the full Scotland squad. The Rangers striker has scored eight goals in four starts for the Scottish champions, including five against St Mirren on Saturday and one in the Champions' League against Monaco on Tuesday.

Now Miller, who has already played for his country at Under-21 level, is set to earn a full cap when Scotland play host to Australia in a friendly at Hampden Park next Wednesday.

The Kilmarnock striker Andy McLaren had also been tipped for a call-up but he has not been chosen for Craig Brown's 25-man squad.

Leeds' Dominic Matteo has been included after being injured for the World Cup qualifiers with San Marino and Croatia. Matteo has played for England at Under-21 level and was also included in a full squad without playing. However, the Dumfries-born player has pledged his future to Scotland. Never having played for an England team in a competitive match means he is still eligible and, even if Matteo plays against Australia, the friendly status of the match still leaves him with the option to play for England.

Celtic's Paul Lambert is out until the new year through injury and there is no place for Newcastle's Kevin Gallacher, scorer of the Scots' equaliser in Croatia last month. Australia include Leeds' Mark Viduka, Hibernian's Stuart Lovell and Rangers' Tony Vidmar.
