Rangers rely on Boyd's run to outpace Celtic

Kris Boyd may be the most prolific marksman in the history of the SPL but his record in the game that matters most to Rangers fans is modest in the extreme. The striker, who has 19 goals to his name this season, has scored just once in his career against Celtic ahead of tomorrow's trip to Parkhead.

Victory for Walter Smith's resurgent side – they have scored 26 times in their last six games, 11 of them to Boyd – would move them 10 points ahead of their Old Firm rivals, and set fair to retain the title they won on the last day of the previous campaign.

Boyd's five goals against Dundee United on Wednesday saw him overtake Henrik Larsson's mark of 158 in Scotland's top flight, but his future at Ibrox is far from assured. He has as yet to agree a new deal and came close to leaving for Birmingham in the summer. The 26-year-old has already attracted interest from clubs in Turkey and France, as well as Newcastle, and given Rangers' financial plight they would find a reasonable offer hard to resist.

Rangers will be without Boyd's strike partner, Kenny Miller, who is suspended.
