Chris Sutton could join the Celtic squad for today's match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Parkhead as they attempt to pull further away from Rangers, who play tomorrow.

The striker has been out of action with a shoulder injury since the defeat to Aberdeen on 27 October but has returned to training. Celtic will be without Craig Beattie, who has an ankle injury, and other players are struggling to be fit, including midfielder Stilian Petrov, who has shoulder trouble.

Steven Thompson will not be available to Rangers as they continue their pursuit of Celtic buoyed, by their midweek victory over their rivals in the League Cup.

The striker has been ruled out of the game against Hibernian with an ankle injury. Alex Rae made his comeback against Celtic following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a torn calf, but he could be rested. Dado Prso was thrown into the game in place of the injured Thompson, despite recently suffering a knock to the face, and came through the Cup tie unscathed.

Celtic lead Rangers by four points in the annual two-horse title race.
