Zurawski helps Celtic break record

Maciej Zurawski wiped the name of Polish team-mate Artur Boruc from the headlines with four brilliant goals at East End Park yesterday to retain Celtic's 13-point lead in the Scottish Premier League with a whopping 8-1 win over Dunfermline.

The champions-elect, particularly John Hartson and Roy Keane, had woken yesterday to derogatory comments in the press attributed to Boruc, and he was left with egg on his face again after costing his side the lead with a blunder for Andy Tod to cancel out Stilian Petrov's early opener.

Petrov put them back into the lead before setting up Zurawski's first goal. It then became the Polish striker's show with another three. Celtic continued to steamroller their opponents with Shaun Maloney hitting the net with a stunning volley and the captain Neil Lennon scoring a rare goal.

Zurawski's haul made Celtic the first team to score eight goals in the SPL which took his total for the season to 15, including eight in seven games.

Following Rangers' 2-0 win over Hibernian on Saturday, their manager Alex McLeish believes that Chris Burke has done enough this season to force his way into the Scotland national team.

The Scotland coach Walter Smith names his squad today for the friendly against Switzerland and McLeish would love to see the 22-year-old winger's name on the teamsheet. Burke was in inspirational form on Saturday and McLeish said: "He's a fast learner. I admire his work ethic, not just during a game, but his will and desire off the pitch. He lives a good, professional life and he is working really hard in the gym to make himself stronger"

The victory over Hibs ended a three-game losing streak and provided a much-needed boost ahead of Wednesday's game with Villarreal in the last 16 of the Champions' League.
