Alberto Moreno to Liverpool: Defender admits it has been emotional leaving Seville but is 'super-motivated' to succeed at Anfield

The defender will complete Reds move imminently

Ahead of his imminent transfer to Liverpool, Alberto Moreno has admitted that leaving Seville has been emotional for him, but he is "super-motivated" to succeed at Anfield.

The 22-year-old Spaniard arrived at the club's Melwood training ground today to finalise the initial £12m move to Anfield after Sevilla relented in Liverpool's long pursuit for the left-back.

"I am living a strange situation because I'm leaving the club of my life," Moreno told ABC de Sevilla.

"I was always aware of the two teams [trying] to agree. I never got into that but Sevilla have understood that Liverpool's offer was good and I am going."

Moreno was pulled from his side's starting line-up to face Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup in Cardiff on Tuesday night and bade a tearful farewell to fans and team-mates after the 2-0 defeat at the Millennium Stadium.

"[I have] many feelings together. What happened on the pitch, with the fans, will remain forever etched on me and I could not help but mourn [his departure] because I did not expect it," he added.

"First came the parting with colleagues, then with the fans...all very complicated.

"Liverpool are a great team and of course I'm super-motivated. I hope things go well."

Moreno's words echo that of a former Seville prospect who moved to the Premier League - Jose Reyes to Arsenal in January 2004.

Reyes said at the time: "I'm the happiest man and the saddest man in the world at the same time.

"I'm leaving the best team in Spain to join the best team in England.

"Without a doubt this is a step forward in my career but I'm not forgetting that I'm leaving the club that I love with all my heart."

Reyes would eventually return to Seville eight years later, and currently still plays for the Andalusians.
