Andre Ayew to Sunderland: Swansea City receive £10million plus Fabio Borini bid

The Black Cats’ interest in the Ghanaian international has become public knowledge in recent weeks

Sunderland have stepped up their interest in Swansea City forward Andre Ayew by offering £10million plus striker Fabio Borini.

The Black Cats’ interest in the Ghanaian international has become public knowledge in recent weeks, with an initial approach being made earlier this month, but the Swans rejected their enquiry out of hand.

According to Sky Sports, an offer has now been submitted by Sunderland.

Ayew, who recently finished third-placed in the Confederation of African Football’s player of the year award, has been one of the club’s stand-out performers in an otherwise disappointing campaign.

Swansea find themselves in the midst of a relegation battle despite new head coach Francesco Guidolin led them to victory in his first game in charge at Everton on Sunday.

The Black Cats are also struggling to avoid the drop, which makes any deal involving Ayew moving to Wearside all the more unlikely. Swansea did, however, recently sell midfielder Jonjo Shelvey to Newcastle United, who are currently 18^th in the Premier League table.

Borini arrived at the Stadium of Light last summer from Liverpool, following a successful loan spell with the club during the 2013/14 season.

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has refused to publicly admit he would either be willing to use the Italian as part of the deal or that the club is interested in Ayew.

"I can't speculate on that,” he said. “Me saying I'm willing to use Fabio would upset Fabio; me saying that Ayew is definitely someone I want for this club means that Swansea could say I have upset this player by saying that I actually want him."
