Arsenal are thought to be closing in on a £15.8m deal for Porto midfielder Juan Quintero.

News of the deal emerged after the 21-year-old's agent tweeted yesterday: "Today @juanferquinte10 travelled to England to sign a contract with Arsenal who are paying 20m Euros (around £15.8m) to FCPorto, congratulations!"

The 21-year-old, who played a role in Colombia's impressive World Cup campaign, was flying from Medellin to Bogota before flying to Heathrow according to reports in Colombia.

Respected local journalist Diego Rueda posted a tweet that translates as: "It's real possibility that Juan Fernando Quintero play with Arsenal. He would be coming to London on Monday. Wish is realise."

Should the deal be completed it would cast more doubt over the future of Santi Cazorla.

The Spain international has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid amid reports that he is unsettled at the Emirates and unsure of his role in the Arsenal midfield.

Yet suggestions that Quintero is on the verge of joining Arsenal should perhaps be tempered by quotes attributed to another of his representatives.

"Porto have never talked about negotiating the sale of Juan Quintero," Ricardo Calleri told MaisFutebol.

"Of course, there are clubs interested. There is a lot of interest from clubs from Spain and England in the player.

"But in order for him to leave, a club has to pay his buy-out clause."

Quintero was used mostly from the bench during Colombia's World Cup campaign, including their final match, the quarter-final defeat to host nation Brazil. He started in the 4-1 win over Japan and scored against the Ivory Coast.

Quintero only joined Porto from Italian club Pescara last summer, scoring four goals in 22 league appearances last term.
