Arsenal transfer news: Mesut Ozil 'targeted by Bayern Munich' after contract talks postponed

Mesut Özil is reportedly a summer transfer target for Bayern Munich after putting talks over a new contract with Arsenal on hold.

According to The Sun, the Bundesliga champions are monitoring Özil’s situation in the hope that his postponement of talks with the Emirates’ hierarchy is a sign that he wishes to leave north London.

Özil, who has two years remaining on his current deal, will not discuss renewed terms with Arsenal until he returns for pre-season training after this summer’s European Championships.

It is understood that the Germany international, who has been included in Joachim Low’s provisional 27-man squad for the tournament, is not agitating for a move but wants more time to consider a contract which could be the last he signs while at his peak.

The 27-year-old has won just two FA Cups at Arsenal since completing his £42.5million from Real Madrid in 2013 and is aware of interest being shown in him from some of European football’s top clubs.

Özil currently earns £140,000-a-week though, according to The Times, the club would be willing to increase that amount to £200,000-a-week and make him the highest-paid player in Arsenal’s history.

The midfielder finished the Premier League season with an impressive 19 assists, by far the most of any player in the top-flight, though only four of those came in the second half of the campaign.
