Arsenal have reportedly ended their interest in Arturo Vidal, despite recent reports that a deal was as close as "90 per cent" done.

The Gunners were thought to be preparing to make the midfielder their second marquee signing of the summer following the arrival of Petr Cech yesterday.

Reports in Italy claimed the Chile international had agreed a £21m move and a Spanish radio radio station suggested that the transfer for the Juventus midfielder was "90 per cent" done.

Yet according to further reports today, all interest has ended after Arsene Wenger had a rethink over the need for a new central midfielder.

Whilst a deep lying player has been a priority at the Emirates as recently as January, the emergence of Francis Coquelin and the strong end to last season has left the Arsenal manager wondering whether he really needs another midfielder to pick from.

With the same stroke, interest in Morgan Schniederlin may also not be firmed up with Manchester United reportedly closing in on the Southampton player.
