Schalke 04 could not resist a dig at Arsenal and Manchester United, after clinching the signature of Swiss star Breel Embolo.

The German side completed the signing of the 19-year-old striker on Sunday, just a day after Embolo played in his country’s Euro 2016 exit against Poland.

Schalke confirmed his arrival from Basel by releasing a video on Twitter, which cheekily suggested they had beaten Arsenal and United, as well as Barcelona, Wolfsburg and Red Bull Leipzig, to Embolo’s signature.

Embolo appears in the video, saying: “I’m proud to be a Royal Blue.”

Embolo, who was born in Cameroon but represents Switzerland, is considered one of the brightest prospects in European football. Gossip columns have linked him with a switch to the Premier League throughout the summer, but he has opted for a move to the Bundesliga.

The forward netted 30 goals in 86 games for Basel and appeared in all four of Switzerland’s games at Euro 2016 where he impressed, without finding the net.
