Summer transfer window 2018: Latest Premier League deals and rumours round-up

Cardiff City are closing in on two more signings as Neil Warnock looks to strengthen his side ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Bristol City forward Bobby Reid will cross the Severn in exchange for an initial fee of £9m that could rise with incentives to become an eight-figure sum and take their summer spending to £30m.

Reid, who is capable of playing in midfield or as more of a striker, was the subject of interest from recently-relegated West Bromwich Albion but now will get the chance to play in the top flight for the first time in his career.

The outlay may be seen as a risk by some, with Reid scoring just three goals in a season on loan at League Two Plymouth Argyle only three years ago but his development into a potent attacking threat last year has encouraged Cardiff to roll the dice.

Warnock hopes QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies will also join the club this week, while Norwich winger Josh Murphy has already completed a move to the Welsh club as well as former Preston North End defender Greg Cunningham.

Club sources say they are still confident of signing Iceland captain Aron Gunnarsson to a new contract when he returns from the World Cup though there is interest from clubs in England and Germany in signing the long-throw specialist on a Bosman deal.
