David Luiz and Diego Costa spent most of last season’s Champions League tie at each other’s throats, but now the PSG defender wants the Chelsea forward on his side.

Luiz has urged Costa to join him at Paris Saint-Germain if the forward has ‘had enough’ of life at Stamford Bridge.

Costa has been a controversial figure for Chelsea, scoring 21 goals in his first season, but has also been involved in a number of controversies, including last season’s round-of-16 tie against Chelsea, when the two players squared up several times.

Despite their on-field differences, Luiz, who left Chelsea for PSG for £40m in 2014, rates Costa as one of the best players in the world and would welcome him at the Parc des Princes.

“If Diego decides he has had enough of England and wants a new challenge he would be welcome here,” Luiz said.

“Diego is one of the clinical strikers in Europe and would be a welcome addition to any team. I think PSG have made their intent clear over the last three or four seasons – that we only add the best players.”

“Diego and myself have had our clashes. On the field he is physical and confrontational – he will get in your face. That is part of his game. But odd the field he is one of the nicest guys you can meet.”

Chelsea and PSG clash again in the Champions League next month. “I welcome two big battles with Diego, but both games will end with a hug,” Luiz said.
