Chelsea transfer news: Gary Cahill commits future to club after talks with Guus Hiddink

Centre-back says he wants to stay and fight for his place, having held talks with manager over his future

Gary Cahill has reassured Chelsea fans he will not be leaving Stamford Bridge after the defender spoke to Guus Hiddink about his future.

John Terry revealed on Sunday that he will be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season having not been offered a new contract by the club.

It was reported last week that fellow centre-back Cahill also wanted to leave Stamford Bridge, having fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho and then Hiddink, with Kurt Zouma playing instead. However, Cahill, 30, said on Monday he is happy at the club.

“I had a good chat with the manager and he was very approachable,” Cahill said.

“I want to stay at the club, I signed a four-year deal a couple of months ago and that shows I want to be here. Over the last few seasons I was in 85-90 per cent of games and this season has been different.

“You get people criticising players who are happy to sit on the bench and pick up their money. That is certainly not me. I want to be out there and a big part of things if I can.”

Cahill said Chelsea’s draw against Manchester City in the fifth round of the FA Cup was a hard a tie as they could have received. “Arguably, it’s the toughest draw you can get,” he said. “It is going to be a huge game, a big fixture.”
