Loic Remy to Chelsea: Blues look to replace Fernando Torres by trigging £8m release clause for QPR striker

Chelsea also looking at Roma's Mattia Destro to bolster striking options

Chelsea have agreed an £8million fee with Queens Park Rangers for striker Loic Remy, as they look to replace Fernando Torres.

The Spaniard has joined AC Milan on a two-year loan deal meaning the Blues’ striking options have been limited to just two players, Diego Costa and Didier Drogba.

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has begun talks with Remy as he looks to bolster his options upfront and has matched the player’s release clause.

Remy’s contract said he could be sold at £8m for a club in the Champions League, which Chelsea of course are. QPR wanted to safeguard themselves from losing the player to rival club by setting the clause at £11m to a side in the top six and £15m to anyone else.

The 27-year-old is believed to command wages in excess of £80,000-per-week.

Remy has impressed since coming to English football in 2013, especially during his loan spell with Newcastle last season where he scored 14 goals in 26 league games. He also has five goals in 24 appearances for France.

Apart from Remy, Chelsea are also looking to reinforce their forward options in the form of Roma’s Mattia Destro but the Italian club say he is not for sale.

Mourinho was hoping for a possible deal for the 23-year-old but club president James Pallotta said Roma will not be parting with their man.

Pallotta said; “We've not reached out to anybody. He's not for sale, it's completely off the table. I decided that a year ago he wasn't for sale. We've got a great front line with Destro there. You won't see any crazy things going on, that's for sure.”

Destro scored 13 league goals last season as Roma finished second in Serie A behind Juventus.
