Chelsea transfer targets: Who could Jose Mourinho sign in January?

Chelsea may want to strengthen their squad in the January window

Chelsea may be the best team in the Premier League, but Jose Mourinho will know there is always room for improvement.

After a brilliant, unbeaten start, Chelsea still only find themselves three points ahead of defending champions Manchester City, though they have already played at the Etihad, Old Trafford and Anfield.

With Sergio Aguero an injury risk, City appear likely to strengthen in January, and Chelsea won't want to be left behind.

Jose Mourinho has not suffered any major injuries so far this season, with Diego Costa and Ramires the only lingering concersn, but the depth have the squad is slightly questionable.

When Mourinho has turned to the likes of Mohamed Salah and Andre Schurrle they have been found wanting, with just two goals between them, while the team have struggled for rhythm in recent weeks when John Obi Mikel has played.

Defensively, should either John Terry or Gary Cahill be injured then Branislav Ivanovic would be forced from his right-back berth.

Chelsea's first XI is extremely strong and if the club are to spend at all in January it will be to improve depth.
