Daley Blind to Manchester United: Louis van Gaal agrees £13.8m fee for Ajax defender

The deal is still subject to personal terms and a medical being completed

Manchester United have agreed a £13.8million fee with Ajax for Dutch defender Daley Blind.

The two clubs have reached a deal for the 24-year-old but personal terms and a medical are yet to completed.

Blind, who was part of Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands World Cup squad, is a versatile defender able of playing left-back, wing-back or defensive midfield.

When the move is finalised, Blind will be United’s fifth signing this transfer window. He will be joining fellow defenders Luke Shaw and Marco Rojo, midfielder Ander Herrera and the £59.7m, British record signing of Angel Di Maria who have all arrived at Old Trafford this summer.

The club released a statement saying: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Ajax to sign Daley Blind, subject to a medical and personal terms."

United’s defensive frailties have been well documented already this season following the league defeat to Swansea on the opening day of the season, the drab draw with Sunderland last Sunday and the midweek humiliation at the hands of MK Dons in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Blind came up through the youth system at Ajax and went on to play close to 150 games for the Dutch champions.

He started all of the Netherlands' World Cup games and scored against Brazil in the third place play-off match. He has 19 caps for the national side.
