David De Gea could be staying at Manchester United this season as there has been no progress in negotiations, according to reports in Spain.
Madrid newspaper Marca report that there has been 'no movement' from either side and with the goalkeeper out of contract next summer - having already agreed to join the club when he is a free agent - the Spanish club believe that time is on their side.
There is still a fortnight until the transfer window closes but Manchester United will not budge on their €40million (£28m) asking price, with Real Madrid not prepared to meet that price.
The paper reports that Real believe they are well covered in goal even if De Gea doesn't arrive, with Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla already in the squad.
De Gea has been named in Manchester United's Champions League squad but Louis van Gaal continues to be linked with moves to Ajax's Jasper Cillessen and Hugo Lloris of Tottenham.
De Gea, of course, was left out of the opening match of the Premier League season against Tottenham and United would be willing to sell.
Speaking after the 1-0 win, Van Gaal said it was up to Real Madrid to make the transfer happen.
"I'm not the most important part with De Gea," he said.
"The most important part is the player and the club who wants to buy him. He's our best player for the past two or three years so we cannot let him go so easily."
However, at his press conference ahead of Friday night's match at Aston Villa, Van Gaal confirmed that De Gea would again be left out of the United squad.
"No, it's the same situation," the United manager said when asked if De Gea would play.
