David Moyes, the Everton manager, is poised to complete his first signing of the January transfer window after the club agreed an £8.6m fee for the midfielder Leroy Fer from Steve McClaren's side FC Twente.
The Netherlands international is due on Merseyside to discuss personal teams and have a medical ahead of the move, which will go some way towards easing Moyes' frustration in the transfer market.
The 23-year-old, nicknamed "The Bouncer", is regarded as a combative midfield force. Fer made headlines last year when he spent £22,000 on a horse for his girlfriend, only to sell it swiftly when he discovered she would not be able to keep it, partly on account of living in a high-rise block of flats.
