Eden Hazard transfer news: Real Madrid complete signing of Chelsea star for initial £88m
The Belgian leaves Stamford Bridge a hero after seven trophy-laden years
Real Madrid have completed the signing of Chelsea star Eden Hazard for an initial £88m fee plus add-ons after a protracted period of negotiations.
The 28-year-old will be presented at the Bernabeu on June 13, subject to completing a medical.
Hazard scored 110 goals in 352 games for Chelsea but confirmed his desire to leave the club after seven years, having steered the Blues to victory in the Europe League final against Arsenal last month.
The two clubs had been in discussions for a number of weeks with Hazard making it clear he would not be renewing terms and with just one-year remaining on his contract effectively forced Chelsea to cash in.
However, Chelsea still drove a hard bargain and could now net as much as £130m with achievable add-ons inserted into the agreement.
“The memories he leaves us with will not fade,” said Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia of Hazard’s departure.
“He provided all who watched Chelsea play with great entertainment and many match-winning contributions, and for that we thank Eden enormously.
“He has been a model professional throughout his time at the club, a wonderful individual to have around and a joy to work with.”
