Eliaquim Mangala to Manchester City: Premier League champions hoping to tie up £32m transfer this weekend

Mangala's transfer to City has been drawn out due to a payment disagreement but a breakthrough in negotiations should see the move completed

Manchester City could finally complete their move for Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala after the move hit a stumbling block over an agreement over how the fee would be paid.

After months of negotiations, City are believed to be confident that they can finally confirm the capture of the 23-year-old, who will cost City £32m in their biggest signing of the summer.

Footage of Mangala discussing the move and undergoing a medical was leaked on City’s website earlier in the summer, which is believed to have infuriated Porto as the move was still far from complete. Emerging in July, the deal has taken a further three weeks to make progress, and is still not rubber stamped despite the lengthy talks.

The video was made to be revealed when the Premier League champions unveiled their latest signing, but the club’s website was subsequently hacked and the video was leaked online, much to the embarrassment of the City hierarchy.

But according to the Daily Mail, progress has finally been made which should see the deal completed ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield against Arsenal, and the France international should be able to join up with his new team-mates at some point next week.

City have already confirmed that they intend to end their summer transfer business with the addition of Mangala, having already landed his former team-mate Fernando in a £12m deal and goalkeeper Willy Caballero from Malaga for £6m.

They also secured a six-month loan of ex-Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard after the latest New York City FC agreed an immediate yet somewhat controversial return to the Premier League.
