Chelsea are closing in on completing a deal to sign Miazga from New York Red Bulls but will not allow Cahill to leave despite his personal fears for his Euro 2016 place

Gary Cahill will not be allowed to leave Chelsea before Monday’s transfer deadline even if he asks to leave in a bid to save his Euro 2016 chances, with the centre-back believed to be considering his future at Stamford Bridge.

The potential arrival of United States international defender Matt Miazga will not impact Cahill’s future in the coming days, despite reports that the former Bolton defender is “at a crossroads of his career”.

Having lost his place under Guus Hiddink’s tenure to Kurt Zouma, Cahill is said to be concerned about his place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for this summer’s tournament in France. Chris Smalling, John Stones and Phil Jagielka are all in contention for the final squad, with Cahill in danger of missing out.

But according to The Guardian, Cahill will not be given the green light to seek a new move even if Miazga joins from MLS side New York Red Bulls. Despite being the vice-captain to Wayne Rooney on England duty, Cahill is in danger of losing his place in the England side, and if he spends the bulk of the next five months on the substitutes’ bench with Stones, Smalling and Jagielka playing regularly, he risks falling out of favour with Hodgson.

The reasoning behind Chelsea’s decision not to allow him to leave is said to be due to the short time available to recruit a replacement, given that Miazga is eyed as adding depth rather than a direct replacement for any player.

Despite his contract with the Red Bulls expiring at the end of the season, Chelsea will look to bring Miazga in by Monday in a deal thought to be worth £2m, and the 20-year-old has already been given permission to leave the United States’ training camp in order to travel to London to undergo a medical and agree terms, although the paperwork will be eased given that he holds a Polish passport and will not require a work permit.
