Hugo Lloris to Manchester United: Tottenham goalkeeper says playing time is key
Victor Valdes could beat Lloris to the No 1 jersey if the Frenchman moved to Old Trafford
Hugo Lloris has sounded a warning to Manchester United over a possible switch to Old Trafford.
The Tottenham goalkeeper has been linked with replacing David De Gea should the current incumbent of the patch between the sticks at Old Trafford depart for Real Madrid.
Lloris, who has been at Spurs for three years, has reiterated his desire to play in the Champions League but warned that first-team chances are crucial.
"Dialogue and choices are important, but the most important thing is to have the ability to play lots of matches in order to put in the best performance possible and continue to be selected for the national team," he told RMC Sport.
Even if De Gea departs, Victor Valdes will remain at Old Trafford and will challenge - and possibly beat - any new arrival to the No 1 jersey.
On wanting to play in Europe's elite competition - which Manchester United returned to after a years absence, Lloris said: "This is the case for everyone, not because it is the season of the European Championships. It is a goal and a personal ambition.
"The Champions League remains an important competition, where the level is the highest in Europe, so obviously we want to participate and to rub shoulders with the biggest European teams. We work every day for that."
The former Lyon stopper remains relaxed over a possible switch though.
"I assume that the choices come naturally, so I am staying calm and seeing how things develop."
