Manchester United have not made contact with Ajax over the potential transfer of Jasper Cillessen, despite the goalkeeper continuing to be tipped to replace David De Gea.

De Gea's move to the Bernabeu remains a possibility and if it goes through Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will want a replacement.

Cillessen, who worked with Van Gaal during the latter's time as Netherlands manager, is the favourite to arrive at Old Trafford.

However, Ajax's director of football Marc Overmars says United have not been in contact.

"There is no contact with Manchester United," he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "I have heard nothing from Manchester United."

An alternative potential arrival is Keylor Navas. Real Madrid are understood to be willing to use their goalkeeper as part of any deal to secure De Gea.

Real have gone as far as to ask Navas to remain on stand-by rather than join up with the Cota Rica national team in case he's needed to fly to Manchester to complete a deal

However, there could be serious obstacles to Navas joining United with concerns over the talents of the goalkeeper at Old Trafford and the goalkeeper himself unsure of whether he wants to pursue a move to Manchester.
